  • Are very playful & can provide non-stop entertainment - can run around in circles around you, climb up & down within the cage

  • Can be trained & can even help find lost belongings

  • Miscellaneous (bedding, toys, cleaning supplies, etc.) $75-$100

3 feet length x 2 feet width x 3 feet height

 

What does it like to eat?

  • Raw meat like chicken, lamb or beef

  • Vegetables & fruits

 

How much does it cost on a regular basis?

  • Food $15-$30

  • Vet visits $50-$100 (not monthly)

  • Cleaning supplies, etc. $10-$20

 

Is it lot of work to maintain this pet? 

  • A lot, you have to clean the cage (all levels) more than once a week

  • Bathing the ferret once a week

 

Does it get stinky?

Yes, if you do not do what is mentioned above plus the ferret have an inherent musky smell to them.

  • Bedding

  • Food bowl

  • Exercise equipment

  • Hideout

 

Fun things to know

  • Third most popular pet in the US after cats & dogs

  • Can be litter-trained

  • Steals & hides anything that it can lays its paws on - so if you are missing something in the house, make sure to check the ferret cage!

  • When threatened or scared, ferrets dance

  • Ferrets like their sleep and sleep for 14-16 hours at least a day, and there is nothing that you can do to wake up a sleeping ferret

  • Ferrets like to wag their tails like dogs when excited or happy

 

Useful tips

  • Not really good around small kids

  • Have to be trained not to bite

  • You have to show lot of commitment towards this pet in terms of spending time with it, cleaning & training it
